Location: Bedfordshire
Project Summary: SEC Storage and SEC Interiors have collaborated on a joint workspace project at a brand new premises in Bedfordshire.
Previously, the customer’s large range of automotive stock items was held across several adjoining warehouse storage units but order processing was proving to be inefficient with parts for the same shipment being stored in different locations.
In order to improve warehouse operations with ambitious growth objectives in mind, the customer looked to take on a new premises that would consolidate the large number of parts needed for global orders into one storage area, combined with bespoke office space to accommodate their growing team.
The new building, located just minutes from their original site, offered the scope for warehouse and stock line expansion as well as space for stylish offices, meeting rooms and staff breakout areas offering a productive and welcoming environment, which were designed and installed by the SEC Storage and SEC Interiors teams.
The new facility comfortably accommodates just over 20 staff in the warehouse area and around 10 within the offices across the ground and first floors, with scope to expand the team in the coming years. Incorporating their brand was an integral part of the overall office fit-out design which included stylish use of their logo on the offices’ glass panels.
Innovative Warehouse Design for the Future
The warehouse design utilised a small amount of existing racking which the SEC Storage team dismantled at the original site and reinstated in the new warehouse, alongside the supply and installation of a new adjustable pallet racking solution, designed to store parts in close proximity to others usually selected for collective order shipments. The warehouse team handles approximately 30 crates of orders each week which are sorted, packed and dispatched to their global customer base, from Brazil to the Far East.
The new warehouse layout will allow the customer to expand their stock inventory and reap significant benefits from improved order picking efficiencies. The new warehouse design also offers scope for additional packing benches to ensure they continue to manage the growing number of weekly order shipments.
